An intrauterine device (IUD) is an implantable device for prolonged birth control. Our office now offers IUD insertions. These devices are effective anywhere from 3-10 years depending on the device we determine is best for you. We can provide one that is completely free of hormones (the Paraguard or copper T), or one with hormones (Mirena or Skyla). IUD Denton
Insertion is a quick, in office procedure. After insertion some women experience spotting-light bleeding for 1-3 months. With hormonal IUDs many women have no period after 3 months.
They are very effective against pregnancy, and can be removed at any time desired. However, they are not indicated for pregnant women, women who are prone to pelvic infections, or women who have undiagnosed abnormal bleeding.
